Frank McCourt

Author Frank McCourt sadly passed away today at the age of 78. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Irish immigrants. While only a child his family returned to Ireland and lived in poverty. His father moved to England when he was only 11, and he was from then on raised by his mother.

Frank McCourt later returned to the United States, and attended New York University. Following graduation, he became a school teacher and served in the New York school system for much of his life. While Frank McCourt wrote four published books, only Angela's Ashes, and Tis where published as leather bound editions. Both books were published as signed editions by the Easton Press. His other books include Teacher Man, and Angela and the Baby Jesus. He won the National Book Critics Circle Award and a Pulitzer Prize for his memoir Angela's Ashes.
